Vintage Danish Hellas Silver Plate Cutlery set for 6. Beautiful set is in very good condition. There are 6 hollow handle dinner knives, 6 hollow handle entree knives, 6 dinner forks, 6 entree forks, 6 dessert spoons, 6 Continental soup spoons or tablespoons, 6 teaspoons, 6 cake forks, a large serving fork, large cake knife, a gravy/sauce ladle, a bottle opener, 2 cake servers and various serving spoons.
The entree knives are a rarity. The pieces are in the design called Hellas which features a scroll design to the finial with a double line to the edges. The silver plated pieces are marked to the backs with a tiny figure of a bishop. The Bishop marking is for Absalon and indicates this set is made by the Copenhagen Spoon Factory.
The silver plating to the pieces is bright, reflective and shiny. There is no flaking, corrosion, pitting or wear to the silver plating. Even the fork tines show no wear through to the plating.There are very fine scratches from use. We find the plating on Danish cutlery far superior to most English and Australian sets of a similar era. This is a beautiful and stylish setting. For Imperial measurement users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches.
