Vintage silver-plated football bookends, leather helmets, circa 1920s

Offered here is a very collectible pair of football player bookends. The backside appears to be rough but that is how the casting was designed. When I have seen this set in the past, other than what I have in my possession, they have always been bronze-plated over cast iron.

The scene is a running back being pursued by three tacklers. I believe these are from the 1920s. Take a good look at the photos. There is significant wear to the finish.

I would not be surprised if these also doubled as toys, which would explain some of the wear to finish. The casting themselves are actually very good. The lack of detail is the way they were cast. This set of bookends is 5 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches wide. Together they weigh 4 lbs. I have also listed this set with bronze plating over cast-iron. There are not too many football themed bookends. I have also listed the Judd set a football bookends and I have included a photo of those.

I will also be listing the Amos Alonso Stagg Bookends. The picture following the Judd set is a solid bronze version of the silver plated set that I have listed.

The bronze pair is a flawed set. Notice the face of one of the football players is deformed in the casting process. Right now I dont want to list it because it would be confusing with the silver plated listing.
