A antique Brass Desk Lamp, made in London by - The Shannon Company Ltd, Ropemaker Street. Its patented multi position design, includes a circular base mounted with a brass rod, which can be tilted back or forth and is mounted with a brass shade holder cradle, which holds a brass bankers type shade. The cradle can be moved up or down the rod and also swivelled 360 degrees horizontally or tilted vertically and has silver plated wing nuts on each joint. The base is mounted internally with a cast lead weight for stability and is decorated with a engine turned design of graduated circles.
It measures 11" or 28 cm high x 8 1/2" or 21.5 cm wide and is illuminated by a modern replacement - small size - brass bayonet fit bulb. It has its original toggle switch, which looks to be working - see photo's - but has been professionally bi-passed and is operated by a on/off switch on its mains lead. It is marked with patent marks and Rd numbers on various parts and is marked on the front of its base - LONDON "THE SHANNON LTD".
