These old Martins are some of the sweetest sounding of all the American vintage sopranos out there. They are extremely lush players and are quite free blowing. This one is no exception and the satin silver plate seems to add some additional warmth and body to the sound. It is fresh off the bench of Saxquest's veteran repair tech George Bunk. It now features all new premium leather pads, metal domed resonators, new corks and felts. The key work is ultra smooth under the fingers allowing for a seamless and easy feel from top to bottom. The body of this soprano is in excellent physical condition. When the sax came into our shop it appeared to have been left in the case for many years.
Now it is all cleaned up it looks fantastic. It does not show any history of major past repair. All of the original key work, posts and rods are present. There is no history of solder work around any of the posts. All of the Martin beveled tone holes are also in excellent condition. The satin silver finish on the body tube is very clean from the tip of the neck all the way down to meeting the gold wash on the bell flare. There is some cosmetic wear around the silver finish on the key work.
