WMF Silver Plated ArtNouveau Centrepiece/ FruitStand, Green Iridescent Glass Bowl

Beautiful WMF Silver Plated Art Nouveau Centre Piece/ Fruit Stand. Very Rare Indescent Green Glass, Hand Fluted / Crimped. Stamped on the Base WMF EP. Wonderful Display Piece, absolutely gleaming.

Made by one of the best metalwork companies in the world WMF, Wurttembergische Metal Fabrik. This piece is absolutely beautiful the workmanship that was put into this piece is simply perfection. The stand is wonderful, it has two scroll handles which feature two open mouthed Mythical large cat like creatures, crowns and swags. The First section of the stand is decorated with Middle Eastern style symbols, second section is decorated with floral, leaf , vine grapes and swags. The base is decorated with feather tail embossing.

Please checkout the photos as they will explain better than I. The green Glass bowl is Iridescent which is very rare, its obviously handmade and was fluted / ruffled by hand and formed in a flower shape, this type of glass I have only seen in early WMF vases, its colour is a olive green which reflects violets, pinks and tones of yellow, I have tried to capture on the photos. The WMF marks are situated on the base underside, very clear and stamped well, its a early WMF mark is the old style which indicates it was produced between 1880 and 1900, however I would guess the stand was made between 1880 and 1890 according to the style of the centre piece. Its a very substantial WMF item weighing approximately 1.1kilo.

There is some Silver loss on the high points of the base feathering and the first section of the stand, however its not major and it looks wonderful as the gold tones gives some highlights to the piece. No Dents or dints or nasty scratches, no breakages or splits on the handles, they are very straight , form and strong. There was a old very minor repair to the underside of the threaded screw, just some bonding putty, very common and hidden away inside the stand. The base is in remarkable condition, no distortion or unevenness, sits straight and true as it should be.

Its displays wonderfully, 140 years old and totally usable in todays world. Would look fantastic in any style of home. A very stylish and quality piece from WMF. Height with Glass Bowl : 25.6cm. Height of stand without Bowl : 19.5cm.
