The C melody saxophones, were extremely popular in the 1920's up through the 1930's. Crash put them mostly out of production from a profits standpoint, some still survive today and there has been a minor resurgence of late. Designed to allow one to play off of the same sheet music as everyone else without transcribing, they were tuned to the key of C and many popular songs of the era were built around showcasing the C-melody saxophones. Buescher, out of the Elkhart, Indiana factory was one of the predominant makers of the Melody C, LP, True Tone saxophones during this ear. The original receipt (in pieces) is still in the case. Overall this is in fair to average cosmetic condition. The pads are dried and worn, there are some oxidation spots here and there on the silver plating, the music stand holder screw is broken off (head of the screw is still in the case), and the entire thing could use some tough TLC if you want to get it back into peak playable condition. It also has that musty odor that seems to be so common in older instruments and cases that have been in storage for extended periods of time. The bottom line is that the body and mechanics are in good shape but it isn't exactly up to being playable in its present state. However, as amazing as it is to find an almost 100 year old saxophone with the body in good condition with all the keys and levers functioning properly, the accessories to this make it an iconic piece of musical collectible history. Although the handle is broken off, this comes with the original case. Like the sax, it also has that musty odor, but it appears to be the original case.

This also has what appears to be the original bubble-shank mouthpiece. The Melody C series has specialize mouthpieces to enhance the playability and tone. These C-series saxophones tend to have a warmer, less brassy tone which made them perfect for playing in the home as they were much more mellow. Part of this sound was the specialized mouthpiece.

This also has the music holder and the original neck cap (see photos). But if you're really into collecting vintage antique musical instruments, it is the paperwork that makes this specimen of a Buescher stand out. This has the original sales receipt, hand typed with the matching serial number written in by hand. Granted, the receipt is torn in several places, almost into 3 pieces, but it is still included and quite legible. It also includes Buescher factory Inspection Guarantee card.

It has a tiny bit of the lower-left corner torn off, but it is otherwise intact. If you're looking for an amazing quality USA made Low pitch sax in the key of C, this antique Buescher could be brought back up to snuff and become a cherished instrument in your collection.
