Antique 18th century Dutch Silver Ruitertjes Horseman Button Convert Cufflinks

Up for sale is an antique Georgian Dutch silver pair of Ruitertjes Button convert cufflinks. These buttons originating as functional items evolved into symbols of wealth, regional identity and status. The cufflinks are made up of 4 such buttons (2 small ones and 2 slightly larger ones). Of the two smaller ones: The condition is very good but they are NOT a matched pair. Of the two larger ones: one is in very good condition but the other one shows significant wear.

The larger ones are NOT a matched pair as well. Both the smaller ones have hallmarks and the larger ones, no marks can be found.

The word Ruitertjes translate colloquially to "little riders". While many were round, the signature trait of the early ones is octagonal.
