Antique Art Deco Marcasite Book Chain Bracelet

ANTIQUE ART DECO MARCASITE BOOK CHAIN BRACELET. Which is as far away from the'vintage style' pieces as you can get. The beautiful open worked panels have been linked by the old'book chain' method, which indicates it is an early piece. The upper part of each of these links is set with marcasites so that they are part of the integral design and not just functional. Each of the panels is open and worked with elegant curving edges and bars, which are also set with the tiny glittering marcasites set by hand. The fold over clasp is set with the marcasites too similar in appearance to the links. The weight of the bracelet is beautiful, and this would have been an expensive piece in its day. It is app 10 mm wide. The metal has been Rhodium Plated. Rhodium is a derivative of Platinum and is also used to this day to protect precious metals in Fine Jewellery. There are some losses to the reverse as shown, but nothing that affects the item when worn. The tiny glittering stones (preferred by both the Empress Josephine and Queen Victoria to diamonds and known as black diamonds in earlier times) appear original and seem to be present. They are tiny and serve to highlight th curves of the design rather than act as accent stones.
