A fantastic antique dish, made in Italy from hand hammered 800 silver. The 800 means 80 percent silver and 20 percent some other metal or alloy, by weight. Italian silversmiths rarely submitted their pieces to the optional official hallmarking. Usually silver pieces were marked only with the'800' (purity degree 800/1000), sometimes coupled with the silversmith's hallmark. In this case, the hallmark consists of the number 800 with the initials HS inside a heart on the base.
Elaborately styled, with an ornate repousse floral border around an oval shaped centre. The dish has ruffled and scalloped edges, truly a work of art.
