Antique PICKLE CASTOR CRANBERRY enamel JAR James W. TUFTS #3606 ORIGINAL

This is a classic Victorian PICKLE CASTOR - made by James W. It is an elaborately decorated, footed frame with a pyramid shape handle - standing 13.5 tall. The details are wonderful - openwork feet, ribbed jar ring, figural strawberries at the base of the handles, topped with a crown of curling vines and leaves - finished with fancy period tongs. Believed to be an Original Set - Circa 1890's The JAR/insert is made for the frame - fits perfectly into the ribbed recessed ring of the frame. It is Cranberry glass with a baby thumbprint pattern - decorated with a 2 wide silvery frosted band topped with hand painted gold enamel netting and beading. The gold enamel decor continues below the band in a more random web-like pattern. The jar is topped with the perfectly fitting, Correct lid (numbered the same as the frame - 3606) - with a beaded rim, ribbed top and a fancy openwork finial.
