Antique SILVER PLATED TORTOISE Novelty Servants Hotel Table Call Bell WORKING

From an old clockmakers workshop clearance.. So I remember these from when I was a child and my Father used to get them every now and then..

So if you look in my last picture (the "creep" or collection shown are NOT for sale) but just for example. Who knew a group of tortoises were called a "creep".

If head or tail does not function or hangs down it is likely this cast iron part is broken - as both of these parts are so long they cross over inside the animal (as they work in unison) cast iron being very strong - but also notoriously difficult to repair. As a seasoned and professional clock restorer I have undertaken many overhauls of these. So in thinning down my creep. The one for sale here is a slightly cheeky smaller (younger) looking chappie. Tortoise has a SILVER PLATED shell.

His main body is naturally patinated cast iron. He takes a good wind - and if you push his HEAD or TAIL he will ring his bell until you let go!

Amuses young and old and it seems becoming more collectable than ever. And the good news is they are all house trained and eat very little!
