Antique-Victorian-Oak Cased/Silver Plated 3 Decanter Tantalus + Lock & Key-c1900
Antique Late Victorian period circa 1900 good quality Three Decanter tantalus fashioned in Carved Oak with silver plated fittings including ornate carry handle enclosed with fleur-dy-lys cartouches, Large vacant cartouche for engraving with flanking adornemnts and a hinged, gatefold front door with ornate escutcheon plate to a working lock with original key. The Oak Construction to the tantalus is in good order and without damage or worm, silver plated fittings are similarly in well preserved condition but would benefit from cleaning, lock fitting is in good working order with key responding correctly. The Original three decanters to the tantalus are in generally good condition, each fashioned in crystal glass with a bright cut etched pattern with each decanter being intact with original facet cut ball finial stopper. There are a few small chips to two of the stopper terminals to two of the decanters and there is a chip to the lip of the mouth of one decanter to the underside, all commensurate with age and previous use, that being said each decanter is still very much in useable condition and the chip to the one decanter could be polished out if desired. The Tantalus when shut closed in its entirety measures 44.5 cm in width, 14.5 cm in depth and stands 34 cm tall including carry handle, each decanter stands 22 cm tall with a base width and breadth of 8.3 cm x 8.3 cm. A fine antique tantalus that will make for a splendid decorators piece for the home, still being very much useable after given a clean.
