C1890, ANTIQUE FRENCH KNIGHT'S TEMPLAR ENGRAVED BRASS & SILVER PLATED ALMS DISH. A decorative antique late 19th century French hand engraved brass and silvered alms dish, of Templar interest. The dish is formed of a thick gauge brass.
The outer edge is engraved with the motto in Latin'PAUPERES COMMILITONES CHRISTI ET TEMPLI SALOMONIS', the Knight's Templar motto translating to'The poor fellow-soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon'. Domed boss to the centre is engraved with a Templar cross within the words'pour la fou'. Height: 3.5 cm or 1 3/8 inches. In good antique condition, with wear commensurate with age to the silvered areas around the foot and to the upper rim.
