C1890s Victorian bathroom Nickel-Plated Brass bar TOWEL BASKET JL Mott vtg antiq

Description ------- One (1), amazing, heavy! -- exceedingly rare -- 100+ year old, antique receptacle or basket, for soiled or dirty towels, likely produced by JL Mott Iron Works which was established by Jordan L. Mott in 1828 in The Bronx, New York, and then moved to Trenton, NJ, during the late 19th to early 20th century.

Solid brass/bronze rods or bars, not hollow tubes. No pieces can be removed, nor do any unscrew. All parts - the top and bottom rings, the bottom rungs, and the uprights - are all round rods. The ball feet are solid brass/bronze, and do not remove.

I had this basket professionally electroplated in an antiqued, dull nickel finish which is a matte (low sheen) strong and durable silvery finish, very smooth, but with enough surface imperfections and irregularities to blend nicely with your aged nickel bath fixtures. It is not shiny chrome. I found show an identical basket in a 1908 JL Mott Iron Works Catalog "A" , and also, JL Mott Modern Plumbing catalog of 1914, which shows one in use under a sink.

I show a few of the pages from these catalogs (these catalogs are in the public domain). This is only the second Victorian towel basket that Ive found in my lifetime.

This one is particularly heavy and strong weighing about 8 pounds before packing. Approximate size: 19-3/4" tall to top of rim, x 11-1/4" diameter top rim, overall.
