A classical Roman'Arretine' style Silver plated bowl, possibly based on the famous Arretine Cup, or another Roman terracotta vessel, from the late 19th century, Caldwell, along with Gorham, Tiffany, and Black, Starr & Frost were providers of the highest quality items to Gilded Age America. Silver plated cast copper or repousse with inner liner, presumably an ice bowl for bar use etc. Rosette and three ball feet underneath. Some of the photos show a slightly distorted shape, this is lens distortion from my camera, the bowls are perfectly round. Depicts a repeated banquet theme of male and female figures on couches at a party, and a putti/erote on a pedestal.
Measurements: 18 cm diameter, 9.3 cm tall, or 7, 3.1/2 tall. Not stamped with marked but exactly the same as other very distinctive unmarked Caldwell bowls.
