Cased Shelley china & silver Levesley Brothers (Thomas Levesley), Sheffield 1919

A fine antique Shelley china and sterling silver-mounted coffee service, hallmarked for Levesley Brothers (Thomas Levesley), Sheffield, 1919. The service comprises six Shelley porcelain coffee cups and six matching saucers, attractively decorated with pink roses, green foliage, pale blue borders and gilt detailing. Each cup sits within an ornate pierced sterling silver holder with a decorative handle. The silver holders bear Sheffield assay marks with the date letter for 1919 and the maker's mark for Levesley Brothers, also recorded as Thomas Levesley. The combined silver weight is approximately 126 grams.

The complete service is presented in its original fitted, silk-lined case bearing the retailer's label for James R. Ogden & Sons Ltd, London & Harrogate. Six Shelley china coffee cups. Six hallmarked sterling silver cup holders. One saucer has been extensively broken and repaired at some point in its history. The repair is clearly visible and has been fully photographed from both the front and reverse. The remaining pieces display signs of age and previous use, including some rubbing and wear to the gilt decoration.

The silver holders have tarnishing, surface marks and age-related wear but could be carefully polished if preferred. The original case also shows wear, marking and deterioration to its interior lining consistent with its age.

Despite the damaged saucer, this remains an impressive and highly collectable Edwardian-era Shelley coffee service, enhanced by its original hallmarked sterling silver mounts and fitted retailer's case. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
