Karl Sauberzweig Silver Plated Soup Spoon (read bio in Description)
Karl-Gustav Sauberzweig was a German officer who served in both the Wehrmacht and later the Waffen-SS during World War II. Born in 1899, he had a long military career, beginning in World War I where he earned the Iron Cross. In the interwar period, he served in signals and as an instructor. During World War II, Sauberzweig held various command and staff positions in the Wehrmacht, participating in the invasion of Poland and the Western Campaign. He also served on the Eastern Front and was wounded, losing sight in one eye. In 1943, Sauberzweig transferred to the Waffen-SS with the rank of SS-Oberführer (senior colonel). He went on to command the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian) and later the IX Waffen Mountain Corps of the SS (Croatian). Sauberzweig died in 1946 in an internment camp near Hamburg.
