A delightful early 20th century Moorcroft pottery and silver plate mounted basket. It is in the pomegranate pattern with dark blue ground and dates to the Art Deco period c1930, to the underside of the base it has the Moorcroft Burslem impressed mark. The mount was made by Walker & Hall and produced in their A1 silver plate (a high quality form of silver plating). The basket could had been used for jams, preserves or similar, or used for sweets, nuts or mints. It would also make a very fine pin dish or for use on a dressing table.
Very good for period, the ceramic has crazing quite typical of Moorcroft from this period. The silver plating is not rubbed through and surprisingly good for the age.
There are some tiny knocks and little indents in the metal in places. Width: 12.5 cm (5 inch). Height: 11.5 cm (4 1/2 inch). Weight: 284 grams (before packing).
