An authentic Frank Meisler sculpture of an African elephant. Handmade in a limited edition run of just 480 - this piece is 60 / 480 - it's beautifully rendered in metal alloys with gold and silver plated detailing to accentuate its fine features. Whilst the piece would perhaps be described as a caricature, it's not cartoonish.
In fact the elephant carries a serious expression in our view. We love the criss-cross lines across the body that accurately creates the wrinkled texture of its skin, and the proud, marching gait. It has an articulated head and ears, inviting engagement and interaction. Frank Meisler was a renowned Israeli sculptor, 1929 - 2018, who created kinetic works with movement, designed to delight and surprise. Now under the leadership of his daughter, Frank Meisler handmade works are still produced today.
It is in very good - excellent, used condition. Its head moves from side to side and its ears flap back and forth. There is light tarnishing to the metal alloy cast form.
The tusks, toes and eyes are gold plated and there are silver-plated elements too including the matt finish on the ears. It's beautifully constructed, very solid and stable. It's a heavy piece at over 3.5kg. It is signed and stamped behind its ear 60/480 - 60th piece made in a limited edition of just 480. There are very minor surface marks and scuffs here and there. Dimensions W: 30cm / H: 23cm (to trunk tip) / D: 10cm (with ear laid back). It will be carefully wrapped for its onward journey and tracking details will be provided.
