This story begins over 40 years ago, when I fell in love for the first time. She was a beautiful young lady, but with such a sad tragic story to tell.

I ran into her in my local library, of all places. I read everything about her that I could find in our local libraries. Being from a small community, it wasnt much.

Walter Lords iconic A Night To Remember , The Loss of the S. Titanic , by Lawrence Beesley, and Archibald Gracies The Truth About The Titanic.

These books sparked my curiosities and wet my appetite. I soon began to converse, by letter, with people and places that were beyond my reach. TITANIC spurred what would become a life-long love of literature and history. The 70's and 80's were an interesting, mysterious and special time for TITANIC , before Bob Ballard, James Cameron, and the internet.

40 years later, those original three books, has grown into a large eclectic library and a artifact collection, covering numerous topics. Although my historical interests span the ages, my primary interest has always been TITANIC. Each original artifact is a piece of our history, capturing a specific moment in time. Even if there were a thousand others made just like it, each piece is unique and has its own personal story to tell.

I have decided that it is now time for me to part with much of my collection and other odds-&-ends. Over the years, I have had many pleasant dealings with some very knowledgeable and reputable collectors and sellers. I would also like to acknowledge just a few of the persons whom have added a great deal to our current knowledge base. Even with the long history of the White Star Line, it wasnt until after artifacts were recovered in Titanics debris field that discussions really began on china and even silver, primarily, which patterns were used in which dining areas?

A lot of time and research has went into trying to determine this. Obviously, other than Father Brownes and the Odells photographic collections, all photos and movies taken on board were lost on the night of the disaster. When it comes to patterns, most of us have come to rely on the research by persons, such as Steve Santini, Brian Hawley, Parks Stephenson, Russ Upholster, Jr. And Jonathan Quayle, just to name a few. They each have informative books and / or web-sites.

ORIGINAL White Star Line RMS OCEANIC Era Silver-Plated Soup Tureen. A beautiful silver-plated soup tureen by Mappin Brothers.

The face is stamped with the WSL pennant. The bottom is hallmarked with pattern number 378, the Mappin Sheffield Sun mark, Mappin Brothers, London & Sheffield, date mark of gothic u in a shield. As Mappin Brothers was amalgamated in 1902, this tureen is at least 117 years old.

The tureen is in very good condition, but does have wear commensurate with its age and use. There are two noticeable dents to the rear of the bowl and two on the front, to the right of the WSL pennant. I find it interesting that one of the latter dents originates on the interior, from repeated strikes to the same area from a serving utensil. ITEM WEIGHT (approximate): 1 lb. All Items are from my personal collection. These are historically invaluable treasures to me and I do my best to treat them as such. All items are stored and displayed in a smoke free home or storage area. I do not use flash photography on ephemera or textiles. I do not display artifacts or ephemera in direct sunlight.

I handle documents and photos with the use of white cotton research gloves. I handle unstable ceramics and glass with the use of nitrile gloves. I hand wash and dry silver goods. I limit the polishing of silver, as this process removes a layer of plating each time.

However, most of the items I list for sale will receive a light polish to enhance their appearance and defects in the photos. This item was displayed or photographed in a home with a small dog, a Japanese Chin. Keep this in mind, if you have dog hair allergies.
