A beautiful pair of early 19th century oval gilt mirrors. The water gilding on both frames is worn in places exposing the dark red bole (clay base) beneath the gold. Both frames are in very good condition for the age with a couple of tiny little dinks which don't detract at all from the overall really nice condition. The mirror plates are verre eglomise (reverse glass gilded) with silver leaf.
One plate being done on the original glass which is beautifully wavy and the other has on a newer piece of glass. It is hard to capture on camera but in person you see the squares of the silver leaf where they have been laid on the glass. They have a nice slightly cloudy appearance with some breaks in the leaf where the dark brown backing paint shows through. They are functional as mirrors but maybe not for very fine work!
Any questions don't hesitate to get in touch. Rectangle frames featured surrounding the mirrors in some photos not included. Dimensions: H - 46.6cm. Collection in person or courier only as I think too risky to post. This item is in the category "Antiques\Antique Furniture\Mirrors".
