Rare Vintage Victorian Silver Plate Epergne Compote Centerpiece Tazza Palm Trees with Elephant, 20. This rare and gorgeous silver-plated centerpiece is in great condition. The bowl was cleaned and polished, but the palm tree and elephant were not because I liked the greenish patina that is on it. The palm trees and elephant can be removed from the base and the bowl and dipped if the patina is not desirable. I'm not sure of the exact vintage of this item but I found another one exactly like it on the Chairish antique website and they said it was from the early 20th century. The nuts that hold the base on were so old and rusted that I almost gave up getting them off. The base was scratched and nicked so I gave it a fresh couple of coats of satin black and screwed some new nuts on it. The only part I didn't restore was the elephant and palm tree section because I like the color and the patina gives it more contrast and definition.
It is very heavy for its size, about 12 pounds and stands about 20" tall x 13" x 13 which is the diameter of the bowl. See photos for more dimensions. See photos for a better.
