Handsome Bone China Stirrup Cup, in the form of a Labrador's head, produced by Royale Stratford. Very rare example, in that the stirrup cup is fitted with a cover, hinged to the bezel.
The Stirrup Cup is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. Ideal gift for the dog lover in your life! Royale Stratford China was founded by John Hinks at St Mary's Mill, Longton (the Heart of The Potteries) in 1978.
Name changed to Stratford Bone China Ltd in December 1978. In 1996, following financial difficulties, receivers were appointed. In 2005, the business failed and John Hinks started Studio Hinks Fine Bone China. The stirrup cup collection is inspired by the unusual, rare and collectable drinking vessels of the Georgian Period. Beautifully sculpted in English fine bone china and adorned with a silver plated brass bezel, it is entirely free hand painted and signed by the artist, the stirrup cup design remains faithful to its antique counterpart.Should a stirrup cup be filled with a suitable liquid, it cannot be put down until the contents have been drained! The Labrador Retriever, or Labrador, is a British breed of retriever gun dog.
It was developed in the United Kingdom from St. Jahn's water dogs imported from the Canadian province of Newfoundland and named after the Labrador region of that province.
The stirrup cup, measures 4.5/11.5cms wide, portrays the hound ever-so alert and ready for the off! Beautifully painted in a range of light brown and black colouring.
The fitted cover features a delightful image of the Labrador. Backstamp reads " ROYALE STRATFORD / MADE BY HAND / STAFFORDSHIRE / HAND PAINTED CM (C Meredith)".
