Victorian Rosewood & Silver Plated Writing Slope with Two Inkwells, Unusual Rule. A very nice double inkwell writing slope in good order but in need of a good clean.
Unfortunately missing the key but otherwise complete. It includes an integrated rosewood straight line/ rule which I have never seen in a writing slope before. The metal work to the outside edge has tarnished in a way which makes me believe that these parts and the cartouche are silver plated but they could be nickel plated.
The caps of the ink wells also look silver plated while some of the fittings internally may be steel as there is some corrosion in places. I have included a number of photos and these probably describe the item better than I can and form part of the description.
Everyone has different considerations when purchasing items and if you need any further information, please feel free to contact me and I will try to help. Condition: I have not made any attempt to clean this item so it is in an as seen condition with dust and marks to the woodwork. The box is structurally sound with the odd mark and indentation/scratch from use. The metal work is tarnished but the cartouche is blank with some light scratching.
There is some corrosion to the internal metal work. There is no key and the lock is untested. The skiver looks original with wear, but has come unstuck to one side. The lid catch is in working order. There is a stain to the underside of one of the slope sections. One of the inkwells has a bruise/crack to one of the corners. Size: 28.5cm by 19cm by 11.2cm (Approx 11 1/4" by 7 1/2" by 4 3/8) 1604kg.
