Having resided in South East Asia and the Pacific region for several decades I've a developed passion for and a trading interest in artefacts of the region. This very nice piece depicts the goddess Parvati. In the Hindu religion, Parvati, the goddess of the Himalayas is the archetypal mother goddess and fertility image.

She represents the personification of fertility, maternity and Indian ideals of feminine beauty. She is the consort of Shiva and the mother to Ganesha and Skanda.
