WMF Beautiful Art Nouveau Silver Plated & Crystal Fruit Basket Centrepiece, c1910

Here we have a beautiful WMF swing handle Art Nouveau Silver Plated Fruit basket Centrepiece, very rare in today. World to find one in this condition. This centrepiece is very ornate and stylish, with wonderful workmanship and quality as you would expect from WMF.

To appreciate the beauty of this please checkout the photos as the style of this piece is simply beautiful, from the 6 fine trellis panels with scalloped rim, Art nouveau embossed leaf and motif, tapering towards the base with more fine trellis work, flowers and leaf motifs, topped with a beautifully decorated heavy swing handle. The piece is fully signed with the running ostrich and WMF in a partially dashed Rhombus, OX for oxidised and 1/0 for thickness of silver used.

A replacement cut crystal insert bowl, a very good match as all the crystal motifs match up perfectly with the scalloped edges (Please check the photos) its also a decent fit, as finding such a bowl to fit a 110 year old antique piece of WMF is very difficult, bowl is free from any chips, cracks, nibbles or fractures, plus its a top quality piece of heavy lead crystal, without any damage whatsoever. Is excellent, very little silver loss, only a small amount on the high points of some motifs (photo 6). No dents, dints or nasty scratches, trellis work is perfect without any breakages or bends. Shows no wear in the inside of the structure and no silver loss, underneath the swing handle is also free from any silver loss.

Obviously the basket is very structurally strong and sturdy, especially with the crystal bowl inserted, it does have a small wobble, but not serious at all. This piece is a genuine antique being over 110 years of age, although its in excellent condition, it may show minor signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Its a lovely piece, with a wonderful presence, pure style and quality.

Displays wonderfully and a totally usable antique. Height with Handle : 36 cm. Height without Handles up to rim : 20 cm. Diameter of Basket : 20 cm. Weight of Basket : 575 Grams.
